A woman attacked her boyfriend while he was sitting in the back of the taxi in Blackburn.
Blackburn Magistrates' Court heard the attack, which was accompanied by racist language, was witnessed by police officers who had been flagged down by the taxi driver.
Laura Howatson, 40, of Russell Place, Great Harwood, pleaded guilty to assault and racially aggravated threatening behaviour.
She was made subject to a community order for 12 months with a six-month alcohol treatment requirement.
She was also fined £140 with £85 costs and a £48 victim surcharge.
Saffia Hussain, prosecuting, said officers were initially called to an incident where they met Howatson and her boyfriend, who said they had called for a taxi to take them home.
The taxi arrived a few minutes later.
“Very soon after that the officers were flagged down by the taxi driver,” said Miss Hussain.
“They found the couple involved in an altercation. She was leaning into the back of the taxi, punching the aggrieved and using racist language towards him.”
Bradley Hayes, mitigating, said the victim was a white male, which was not reflected in the language his client had used.
He said sentencing had been deferred from June and in the meantime Howatson had secured fixed accommodation and got to grips with her alcohol problem.
“She says this relationship was violent and on this occasion it was two-way,” said Mr Hayes.
“On the day she had visited the grave of her ex-partner and father of her children and had been drinking all day.
“She had booked a holiday to go and stay with her mother, who lives in Spain, and that didn’t go down well with the aggrieved when she told him.”
