The Gloucester Citizen August 29, 2006 Tuesday HEADLINE: Talks over fares hike A Meeting has been called to consider an objection to proposed new taxi fares in Stroud. The extra session of the Licensing and Regulation Committee of Stroud District Council will take place next Wednesday after a cabbie claimed the increase suggested was excessive. The committee will meet at Ebley Mill at 2pm to decide if fares agreed earlier this year should remain or be altered. The tariffs were varied after the increases were requested by the Stroud Taxi Association but independent taxi operator Ted Lane from Painswick has challenged the proposals. In a letter to the council Mr Lane said: "The increase is excessive and appears to be recommended solely to avoid an increase in 2007." He said the move would be "harmful" to the trade. ................................................... |
