As per usual, if the folks here were really as terrified as it sounds then I wouldn't recommend they actually drive a taxi
And is it specifically illegal to record passengers anyway? Certainly plenty of incidents on here over the years where drivers have been the victims of something or other, and they've been able to use evidence recorded via a phone or whatever.
(And I don't mean a regulated CCTV system, or similar.)
And presumably police didn't pursue it either.
The use of the word 'alleged' in the headline here is also interesting - it would seem that the committee agreed that he had recorded them

A Glasgow private hire driver has been accused of recording passengers and leaving them “terrified.”
Passengers ended up changing their plans and not going to the venues they had planned after they travelled in a car with Abdiqadir Mohamed Nur.
The driver has been suspended for six weeks by Glasgow’s licensing and regulatory committee after councillors heard about the incident.
The committee was told how Nur “kept looking” at the passengers and “looked angry” causing them to feel “uncomfortable.”
He was seen touching his phone and it was claimed he was “recording them.”
Following the incident, a complaint was made to Glasgow City Council’s taxi and private hire enforcement unit.
It was reported that the passengers were “terrified” and decided not to visit the places they had planned to go to.
Nur denied recording anyone in his vehicle.
His private hire car driver licence was suspended for six weeks by councillors during a hearing in John Street.
