This is the original Facebook post rather than the press rehash.
But one thing that's always annoyed me about using Facebook as some sort of writing or news thing is the lack of a title facility - the posts just don't have the usual blog-style facility to insert a title. Like the threads on here do, to use another example.
But I see Facebook has started adding titles - but they're marked 'Titles are generated by AI from Meta'
Anyway, this is certainly unusual in terms of the fault found. But, I mean, I wonder how this came about - you'd think a "heavily corroded suspension component assessed as being at risk of imminent failure" would have been picked up in an MoT or compliance test long before it got to that stage, even if the car was never really checked otherwise?
Anyway, looks like they took a selective approach to the more thorough vehicle inspections - just under half of the cars stopped...
Corroded suspension found on taxi in Redditch compliance checkTaxi & Private Hire Vehicle Compliance Operation in RedditchOn Friday evening West Mercia Police, Worcestershire Regulatory Services and Wolverhampton City Council Licensing Officers, carried out a joint taxi and private hire vehicle compliance operation across Redditch.
20 Redditch licensed vehicles were stopped and checked.
Compliance was generally very good, with most drivers fully cooperating with officers.
9 vehicles underwent further mechanical inspections, with 8 found to be safe and well maintained.
One vehicle was identified with serious safety defects, including a heavily corroded suspension component assessed as being at risk of imminent failure. The vehicle's licence will now be subject to review.

Approximately 20 Wolverhampton licensed vehicles were also checked, one driver was found to have an expired taxi licence, appropriate action will be taken by Wolverhampton City Council.
These proactive operations help ensure licensed vehicles remain safe, legal, and fit to carry members of the public, keeping passengers and other road users safe. We will be holding more operations like this in the near future.
