Not much to see here in the grand scheme of things - the numbers stopped and offences dealt with are pretty clear, but very little detail.

But if the word 'traffic offence' is technically correct, then 1 in 10 is quite a high hit rate :-o

And, again, that would imply a lot more minor licensing transgressions.

But zero detail on that.

But it's the same old suspects (licensing authorities, I mean :lol: ) and one of the photos looks like that old one from the car wash depot, or whatever it was :-s

And quite a lot of the 'working closely' with 'partners' sort of stuff, surprise, surprise.

A total of 254 taxis have been stopped and inspected as part of large-scale safety operations across Preston, Chorley and Blackpool, bringing together police and partners to protect the public.

The operations, carried out on Friday 2nd and Saturday 3rd October, saw officers from Lancashire Constabulary’s Roads Policing Unit working alongside licensing officers from nine local authorities, including Preston, Blackburn with Darwen, Pendle, South Ribble, Chorley, Sefton, Blackpool, Wolverhampton and Knowsley Councils.

The initiative focused on identifying unlicensed drivers and ensuring that legitimate taxi services are operating safely, responsibly and in line with regulations.

The activity forms part of the ongoing NightSafe campaign, which aims to keep Lancashire’s night-time economy safe, welcoming and well-regulated for everyone.

High-visibility checkpoints were set up at key locations across Preston and Chorley. Officers carried out detailed inspections, checking for mechanical faults and safety requirements such as tyres, brakes, lights and seatbelts.

Results from the operation included:

    - 254 licensed vehicles inspected
    - 26 traffic offences identified and dealt with, including illegal tyres and defected lights.
    - Two Section 23 Misuse of Drugs Act searches carried out on passengers

Sergeant Ben Elliott from the Roads Policing Unit said: "These operations are all about protecting the public and ensuring people can travel safely when enjoying Lancashire's nightlife.

"The overwhelming majority of taxi drivers are professional, conscientious and committed to keeping their passengers safe.

“By carrying out targeted checks like these, we can identify those who are not meeting the required standards, deal with any offences and help maintain public confidence in the taxi trade.

"Working closely with our local authority partners allows us to take a robust approach to enforcement while supporting those drivers and operators who are doing the right thing."

If I were to guess, I would say that most of the 10% were iffy number plates.

I see the Echo's rehash of the Lancs Live rehash has hedged its bets on it all and came up with the term 'illegal features' :lol:

Unfortunately neither corrected the error 'defected lights' in the Lancs Police press release :-o

Does 'defected' lights relate to a driver going from a legacy provider to Uber? :lol:

Or maybe it's something about a local car replating via Wolverhampton, Sefton or Knowsley? :lol:
