You never know when incidents like this might be just round the corner. Literally, in this case Coventry taxi driver left with life-changing injury after 'man bites ear in road rage attack' https://www.coventrytelegraph.net/news/ ... e-34758583 Shane Hurley avoided jail at Warwick Crown Court A taxi driver was left with a disfigured ear after a man bit him so hard during a road rage attack that he needed stitches. Shane Hurley avoided immediate jail after pleading guilty to assaulting Mohammed Hanan. Mr Hanan was driving home from a taxi shift at around 1am on December 23, 2022, when he turned into the road where he lived. He saw Hurley approaching at speed, but parked cars lining both sides of the road left too little room for the two vehicles to pass. Hurley, 41, shouted at Mr Hanan to reverse his taxi, Warwick Crown Court heard. Both men continued arguing for around five minutes, with the parked cars preventing Mr Hanan from moving. Hurley then got out of his car and confronted Mr Hanan. He leaned into the taxi and began striking Mr Hanan before the pair became involved in a physical struggle. Things escalated when Hurley climbed into the taxi and bit Mr Hanan on the ear, Warwick Crown Court heard. He required several stitches and his ear later became infected. Mr Hanan said he lost around £3,000 in earnings after being unable to take taxi jobs in December and January. He said the loss of income had a significant impact on his finances as he was the only person in his household who worked. Mr Hanan also said the attack left his ear permanently disfigured. He said the injury makes it difficult to sleep on that side and left him feeling 'uneasy' about driving his taxi, Warwick Crown Court heard. Sentencing Hurley, Judge Kristina Montgomery described the attack as 'wholly unacceptable.' Mitigating, Mark Karpinski said Hurley had previously served in the British Army and been diagnosed with PTSD. Hurley had previously been spared jail for assaulting an emergency worker on October 14, 2022, shortly before the incident involving Mr Hanan. Mr Karpinski said Hurley deeply regretted his actions. Hurley was given a 20-month suspended prison sentence at Warwick Crown Court. He was also ordered to pay £3,000 in compensation to Mr Hanan. |
