Could be wrong, but I'm sure South Lanarkshire is the only council on the PHTM tariff tables listed by separate zones.
Anyway, this is one of them. And interesting that there's a cross-boundary charge on the card as well. Certainly not all Scottish councils have them, but it's unclear whether or not they're legal under the legislation, as opposed to the more clear cut version down south, where councils can't regulate fares out-of-area.
Another oddity is that the cross-boundary charge applies to runs to outside the zone.
We have a boundary charge on Fife's tariff card, and zones. But the higher cross-boundary rate applies to runs beyond the boundaries of Fife, so the zones are irrelevant in that regard
East Kilbride taxi fares to increase from Novemberhttps://www.eastkilbridetoday.co.uk/new ... -november/Taxi fares in East Kilbride are set to rise next month after changes to charges were approved by South Lanarkshire Council. The local authority has agreed to increase the initial charge for journeys of up to 880 yards by 30p, taking it to £4.30.
Under the new tariff, which will come into operation on November 5, the council says an average two-mile taxi journey in the town will cost £7.50.
The changes come following a review of taxi fares across South Lanarkshire's four licensing zones under the Civic Government (Scotland) Act 1982.
As part of the East Kilbride changes, the existing charge for a stoppage at the request of a passenger will be removed.
The "called but not used" charge, which applies when a hired car is called but is ultimately not used, will increase by 70p to £4.30.
Waiting time will remain at 25p for every 60 seconds, or part thereof, equivalent to £15 per hour.
The new tariff will see passengers charged £4.30 for the first 880 yards, followed immediately by a 20p increment.
Further distance charges will then apply throughout the journey, with the council calculating the average cost of a two-mile hire at £7.50.
Passengers travelling between 10pm and 5am can also face an 80p surcharge, with a further 40p charge applying to journeys beginning during those hours on Friday into Saturday and Saturday into Sunday.
A surcharge of half the normal metered fare can be imposed during specified periods over Christmas and New Year.
Taxi journeys taking passengers beyond the East Kilbride licensing zone may also be subject to a surcharge of one third of the normal metered fare.
The tariff maintains a £50 soilage charge where a vehicle is fouled due to sickness caused by alcohol or drugs, takeaway spillages or other fouling.
However, the charge does not apply where a child is sick or where the vehicle is soiled as a result of genuine illness.
The changes in East Kilbride form part of a wider review of taxi fares across South Lanarkshire.
Clydesdale will also see changes to its tariff from November 5.
Reviewed fare scales in Cambuslang and Rutherglen will remain unchanged. The Hamilton tariff will remain at its current level meantime.
The reviewed East Kilbride fares will come into operation on November 5, 2026.
