Woman sentenced for assaulting Whitehaven taxi driver

A WEST Cumbrian woman has been given a suspended jail term after she pleaded guilty to assaulting and "intentionally strangling" a taxi driver.

Lindsay Scott, 42, from High Road, Whitehaven, formally admitted three offences against the same victim when she appeared before Workington’s Magistrates’ Court.

The offences all related to events on August 31.

After hearing the details, the district judge imposed an eight-month jail term, suspended for a year. The sentence includes 80 hours of unpaid work.

Scott must pay £85 costs and a victim surcharge of £187. The judge said the defendant’s guilty pleas were taken into account.

The defendant was represented in court by defence lawyer Mike Woolaghan.
