Another fun ride for a Fife driver. No sign the driver was ever under any threat or whatever, but, you know...
I wonder if he asked for a soiling fee, though - think I'd pass on that one
Bloody attacker told Fife taxi driver ‘ I’ve just killed somebody’ after murder bidhttps://www.thecourier.co.uk/fp/news/co ... urder-bid/Richard Scroggie admitted an attempted murder in Glenrothes during a High Court appearance. An Army veteran told a taxi driver in Fife after a murder bid: “Phone the f***ing police. I’ve just killed somebody”.
Richard Scroggie showed the driver his hands, which were covered in dried blood and cuts, but then claimed he was joking and asked to be taken to an address in Leslie.
Advocate depute David Dickson KC told the High Court in Edinburgh: “The accused then told the driver he had been telling the truth and he had killed someone.”
Scroggie, 41, was driven to his destination and said: “I know you’re going to phone the police.”
He went into the house and said: “I’ve hurt someone. I’ve done something, someone’s hurt me.”
The court heard police were made aware a man covered in blood was at the address and were told he had murdered someone.
Mr Dickson said: “Police officers attended the house and found the accused seated on a sofa.
“He cooperated when arrested and whilst under caution said: ‘Cheeky, so I just stabbed him and strangled him. Might want to get there quick, lot of blood loss to the head’.”
Blood-soaked victim foundPolice went to the home of the victim, who they found on his knees in a bedroom, conscious and covered in blood.
He claimed he sustained his injuries in a fall but then said he was involved in a fight.
The prosecutor said: “On examination, he was found to have over 50 injuries, which had an appearance consistent with being caused at, or around the time of the offence.
“The vast majority of these injuries were caused by significant blunt force trauma to the head and neck, causing large areas of bruising.”
Stitches were used to close some of the wounds.
Mr Dickson said: “The facial bruising can be explained by (the complainer) being punched repeatedly or being struck repeatedly with an object.
Bruising to the neck is consistent with significant pressure being applied to the area.
“Overall the injuries confirm he sustained a prolonged assault, with him receiving multiple significant blows to his face and head and significant force placed on the left side of the neck.”
AdmissionsScroggie, who is currently a prisoner, admitted the attempted murder, committed on September 6 this year at a house in Rothesay Path, Glenrothes.
He attacked his victim by repeatedly striking him on the head and body with glass bottles and then put a cord around his neck and restricted his breathing to his severe injury and permanent disfigurement.
The court heard, the afternoon before the attack, the victim left his home and met two friends and the three men were together when they encountered Scroggie, who they did not know.
Mr Dickson said: “A conversation was struck up, during which the accused told (the complainer) that he had been in the army and that he was homeless.
“The group returned to (the complainer’s) home address where alcohol was consumed before Scroggie approached the taxi driver in the early hours of the following morning in a car park close to Glenrothes bus station.”
Judge Lady Drummond told Scroggie he had pled guilty to a serious crime and noted he has previous convictions for assault.
She deferred sentencing for the preparation of a background report.
