'Man City Council' in the thread title has a certain ring about it, particular when this is about plying for hire outside Man United's stadium
Anyway, usual stuff from Trafford Council. And the usual mention of the match fixture in the press release...
...but do we really need to be told it was a
home fixture?
Taxi driver fined after illegal pick-up in Traffordhttps://www.trafford.gov.uk/news/2026/t ... k-traffordA Hackney Carriage driver registered with Manchester City Council was fined after pleading guilty to illegal ply for hire and driving without insurance after a football match.Mr Zubair Akram, 43, of Boardman Road, Crumpsall, accepted a fare from an undercover licensing enforcement officer from Trafford Council.
He had been waiting in his Hackney Carriage taxi outside Hotel Football, Old Trafford, on the evening of Monday 24 November last year when Manchester United played Everton at home.
He warned them a ride to Manchester city centre was ‘gonna be expensive’ before setting off. The officer revealed their identity and asked Mr Akram to pull over.
Only Hackney Carriage drivers licenced by Trafford Council are permitted to pick up fares in the borough. Mr Akram’s action meant he was uninsured, potentially putting passengers at risk.
Manchester Magistrates imposed eight penalty points on Mr Akram’s driving licence and fined him £120 with a £48 victim surcharge and £200 costs.
Trafford Council’s Executive Member for Community Safety and Civil Contingencies, Cllr Keleigh Glenton, said:
“This case highlights our continued determination to crack down on illegal taxi activity whenever it occurs.
“The vast majority of drivers comply with the rules. Those who seek an unfair advantage by operating outside the law will be held accountable. Thanks to our proactive Licensing Enforcement Team for bringing this case to court.”
