HEADLINE: Taxi rank is on hold

BYLINE: Stephen Bailey

DATELINE: Warrington

A PLAN to build a taxi office in Cairo Street has been put on hold. Councillors have decided to visit the site before putting it to the vote.

Harry Moffatt, from Harry's Cabs, wants to change Ace Recruitment at 29 Cairo Street into a private hire office.

But several objections have been made.

Residents are worried about noise and an existing taxi office is concerned about loss of trade. Clr Pat Wright has objected on road safety grounds.

The police do not object in principle but ask for measures that include taxi marshals and seating inside.

HEADLINE: Taxi rank bid

DATELINE: Warrington Guardian

A PLAN for a three-cab taxi rank next to the new bus station looks set to go ahead.

There have been no objections to creating the rank in Winwick Street. It is also close to the site of the old taxi rank near The Bluebell, a cabbies' favourite until the pedestrianisation of the town centre.

It's in a very narrow street with cars parked on one side nearly 24/7 and theres residents living within 10 yds of it. It was never going to happen to be honest.
Apart from our main office which does about 1.5k walk in jobs on a busy weekend night being just around the corner 30yds away, so its a good decision for us anyway.

Dont wish to go over old ground, but all of hac in warrington objected when crown cars opened up the office on acdamey way, so if Harrys open that office you might know how we felt.Whats happening with abbas new office do you know? I was hoping it would be open now to help the conjestion on the acdamey way rank. The sooner abba open that office the better before someone gets run over.

Your right it is old ground, so while we're there................................

The reason Hac's have to rely on pinching fares from a PH Office is the punters dont trust them. :?
That office is the best thing that could happen for you hac's, just a pity it took 3 years for you to cotton on that it was situated on your rank!!

So Geoff you know every punter in Warrington do you. Im sure we have both heard stroies about people over charging both hacs and ph, it happens and we now it just like flagging and everything esle that goes on that shouldnt. Just because you drive a ph and I drive a hac in the same town doesnt mean that we have to be at each other all the time does it. I hope not. I do hope Mr Bailey opens that office soon it might stop the trouble at the rank on acdamey way and we can all get on and earn some cash. We have using the rank on barbauld st when we can get on it but we have a problem with private cars and some ph parking on it. The Police have booked few cars that have parked there and the ph that park there no they shouldnt. Mr Barnes has wrote to the Police to ask them to keep it clear but we will see what happens! Have you any idea when the new office opens or is true abba are investing in a new radio system to cope with all the new drivers that are going on, and the office has been put on hold.
