Taxi talks after racism probe
Telford & Wrekin Council is to have a “clear the air” meeting with taxi drivers following an official probe into allegations of racism against the authority’s licensing team.
Drivers, operators and owners are invited to the Whitehouse Hotel, Wellington, on Thursday to hear the findings of the independent investigators. Council bosses hope it will be the dawn of a new era of co-operation between licensing officials and taxi firms.
The relationship between the council and Telford’s taxi and private hire firms, many of them operated by Asian families, has been stormy over the past year.
