Six taxi drivers have been fined for picking up passengers in the city illegally.

Tariq Hussain, of Bakersfield, and Iftiquar Ahmed, of Littleover, Derbyshire, both admitted illegally plying for hire. They were each fined £1,000 and ordered to pay £100 costs.

Amer Ali, of Lenton, did not enter a plea but the case was proved in his absence. He was also fined £1,000 and ordered to pay £100 costs.

Paul Amardeep Singh, of Wollaton, admitted the offence and was fined £275 and ordered to pay £75 costs.

Sulakhan Singh Lakhanpal, of Bobbers Mill, and Harjeet Galab Singh, of West Bridgford, also pleaded guilty and were each fined £250 and ordered to pay £75 costs.

The hearings were at Nottingham Magistrates' Court.

Jim Mortell, of Nottingham City Council, said: "This level of fine sends out a clear message that illegal plying for hire will not be tolerated."

Well I can certainly see a common demoninator in the replies by GBC and Kermit.

But if you can't work out the real common demoninator, perhaps I could give you a clue?

What's the common denominator as regards cheating London black cab drivers? :-k

HA HA, very funny - you've obviously worked out the real answer.

But the answer for anyone who can't work it out is the same as the common denominator between the cheating drivers in my manor - it's that they're almost all white.

Simply because almost all the drivers are white.

Oh I see! :!:

Your alluding again, suggesting I'm pointing out none of then are Mr Smith's or Mr Green's?

I was thinking along the lines that they were all PH.

That's stereotyping though is it not?

Well I don't know how you managed to work out that they were all PH, since it didn't say so in the story, thus I assumed that your quip alluded to their race. 8)

Ah, that'll be my London training kicking in, where out of all the touts I witness in action, none drive a Licensed Taxi.

Still we cleared up the allusion.

Isn't this the chap that some, maybe just one, driver from Mansfield doesn't like? Seems to me he is doing his job just fine.

Yes, but the article was about illegal plying for hire, so to that extent it was unnecessary to point out that they were PH drivers, because taxi drivers can't illegally ply for hire, thus your allusion must have been to race.

Alternatively, the drivers could have been out-of-town taxi drivers, in which case the common denominator is that they're all taxi drivers.

Or perhaps it's a mixture of the two, in which case the denominator isn't common.

So they're either all taxi drivers, there's no common denominator, or you were alluding to race since otherwise you would be merely stating the obvious.

But either way it doesn't look good for GBC

Ah, the verdict of the kangaroo has been delivered, and all on the anniversary of Trotsky's death.

Just think Dusty, if you were a real Judge, the millions we could save on jury's and trials.

Trouble is, it was you took the thread into kangaroo court territory.

Indeed it was me who was acting as englightened and independent dispenser of justice. [-(
