HEADLINE: New York cab fares rise

Getting caught in New York's crosstown traffic is now twice as expensive, after city cabbies voted to double the amount charged when a taxi sits idly in jams.

Going nowhere used to cost $12 £ 6.28 per hour -it now costs $24 (£ 12.56). Still, compared to London, it remains a good deal. A two-mile trip in a yellow cab costs about £ 4.50 in a black cab, the same journey costs up to £ 10.40.

So a two mile trip from say Hammersmith down the A4 towards Chiswick at 11AM costs £10.40?

I should be working even less hours if that were the case.
