This article is from August, I can't find it on TDO so I'll post it now. The article mentions Taxi drivers but as per usual we don't know how many of these incidents were Taxi drivers or Private hire drivers? ....................................... THE JOURNAL (Newcastle, UK) August 10, 2006 Taxi swoop A "PIRATE" taxi driver was taken off the road after checks by licensing officers and police. Saturday's Teesside operation involved 50 taxis. Two drivers had no licence or insurance and 16 prohibition notices were issued for defects including faulty tyres, headlights and brakes. .................................................................. |

I can live with the odd bulb or two, or a driver not wearing his badge, but no license or insurance means previous p*** poor enforcement.
The only reason the bad guys are out there is because too many people turn a blind eye.
