As members clubs can now buy cigerettes and alchol online and have them delivered from anywhere in the EU without paying UK duty and taxes, I was wondering if a group of taxi drivers got together and bought a tanker locad of diesel from say france at about 45p a litre (probably less with a quantity purchase) can we import it without paying extra duty as long as we don't sell it on or release it to none members?

I would like to say yes, and hope the same applies for fuel as beer and fags, but as no-one else has tried it, included some of the big freight companies, I would have to say no.

Although Eddie Stobart's office is up here and all his lorries fill up to the brim at calais. So in what's to stop a unit going over with extra tanks (legal) and bringing back a months worth at half price? |

I think the same did apply for fuel, if you drove across to france and filled up you did not need pay the extra duty on fuel that was in your tanks. the big difference with the ruling this week is that you don't need to go and personally collect the stuff. you can order it and have it delivered to you by a thrid party, and that's the difference the new ruling has made. |

thats what they used to do sussex on belly tanks fitted under the trailers. they'd fill up at or near the port and run around over here and fill up again back over there. thats what the foreigners do also, but if el spicko foreigner fills up over here he can claim the tax back in full once back at his operating centre, hence stobarts vehicles registered in belguim and having belgie plates. not all but most of his vehicles anyway. as for getting a 3rd party to go over and collect it for you sounds a good idea to me. anyone fancy going halves...lol would even sponsor the 1st run if it could be done.....!! |

Why is it that when someone asks a sensible question that fruit cake, one T Flanagan, has got to stick his mush where its not wanted, having just read this months taxi today, on page 14 he calls MR T a d#ck head and captain cab gets another roasting. Well fruit cake I hope they sue you its in print now, so have a nice time trying to defend it in the courts 
How do we find out about this cheaper fuel, it must be allowed if you can now bring back all the booze and fags you will ever need |

Because he's a lonely old chap, eeking out his final years in the GMB spouting poison to all and sundry in a vain attempt to get noticed. 
It won't surprise anyone to learn, he's hated by most of the people in the GMB as well! What magazine does he rant in?

I don't know if this will help, but I looked at the idea of bringing diesel in from southern Ireland about 15 years ago, same thing cheaper to buy but must be for your own use, I was looking at bringing over 30,000 litres at a time, I have storage space so that would not be a problem, when I suggested this to the drivers no one was interest in putting the money up front, and everyone also said how can I be sure somebody won't have more than me. but it a good idea as long as the price is right including the price it would cost you to get it over here.....
