| Post subject: | New Transport bill |
The Government are going to introduce a new transport bill into this session of Parliament. I have no doubt that many sections will be devoted to the Taxi trade. I can envisage section 16 being one such issue that will be dealt with but we have to wait and see how this would effect the UK as a whole, including Scotland? The good thing about this bill is that it may give us an opportunity to try and change the more obstructive and irrelevant Taxi legislation that is now outdated. It should also give us an opportunity to try and correct curent bus legislation which is damaging to the Taxi trade, especially when it comes to illegal plying for hire and touting for custom. I don't know anything about this bill as yet, so it may be that I am wrong about the opportunities available to us but I still think it best to advise everyone what might be on the way? Regards JD |

We will have to get Terry to get a meeting with the Sec of State for Transport, who I believe is a GMB member.

Michael Doyle, of the GMB, said: "We have concerns for drivers that have invested large sums of money in taxi plates and don't wish to see them lose their investment." I suppose it depends which branch they believe
