I am just wonderering if anyone knows anything about the rumours in dundee that council will close the town to new apps just wondering if there is any truth in it.

there were rumours about this circulating two weeks after the town was opened, the problem is since the 203020 court case the council now have to follow the rule book which means a survey to prove unmet demand, they are planning a wav survey according to the letter i recieved but this wont be for another year, its only two months untill all plates are renewed
and i reckon a considerable amount of ops wont bother renewing them due to losing drivers etc, im sure there are a few people on this site who can tell you what the legal implications are regarding the council thinking about closing the town especially at this present time, jan goodalls request for fifty per cent of taxis being wheelchair accesible is also going to have an effect on any decision as we are nowhere near that figure yet...

Scot,
Let,s get this straight once and for all,Jan Goodall,DOES NOT,want 50%
Wheelchair coverage in Dundee,as it has nothing to do with her,she wants
FREE TRAVEL or DIAL a RIDE.
This has been the bone of contention for years.
I was at a meeting a few years ago and it was brought up,regarding lack of wheelchair vehicle cover, and in the same breath,TOO expensive,we require dial a ride, was the outcome of this meeting.
Should have given 30-50 plates out to the ones on the list, then made it all wheelchair accessible, year 2006/2007.
This would have been the fairest way.
Once the two tier swipe/card,/old taxi card, comes into being, will be interested to see how many wheelchair customers are in Dundee.
Reckon 4-500,4 customers per WAV.
RICH TIMES AHEAD.

Bloody hell, it's taken me dozens of years to master English, and now I have to work out Scottish too.

Please have some sympathy for us down here.

You are saying that the government got it wrong today, and I should have not one, but two plates? :D

thanks oor wullie im glad some are paying attention, jan goodall does have something to do with taxis in dundee she represents the disabled at all council comitee meetings maybe if guest attended a recent one he might spot her she sits immediatly to the right of the comitte, and she has stated she wants 50 per cent wheelchairs ,this is on top of dial a ride, the posting mentioned handing out 30-50 plates and waiting untill 2006-2007
before all are wheelchair accesable is the reason dundee is in this position ,cabbies earnings have always been put before customers even though we are a public service ,have you ever thought that the wheelchair bound might not want to wait six years to go out,i mentiond a few months ago on this site that the disabled argument would now hold a lot of sway but nobody listened to me ( as usual)whatever the council did or said at meetings prior to the last two years is now irrelevant it is now a whole new ball game ,the disabled and anyone wanting a lisence aren,t going to allow them to sit back and ignore them....
