Taxi builder to raise London complaint
Allied Vehicles, the Glasgow-based taxi manufacturer, is to lodge a complaint with competition watchdogs over licensing authority Transport for London's continuing refusal to sanction its Peugeot E7 cabs for use on the capital's roads.
The Possilpark firm's lawyers are preparing a submission to the Competition Commission, owner Gerry Facenna Facenna said Allied had threatened to take the authority to judicial review after its initial application to sanction the Peugeot E7 was rejected on technical grounds.
It would appear the problem with Mr Facena and his lawyers is that they don't know an awful lot about the Taxi licensing system in this country. He has had ample opportunity in the past to test the conditions of fitness attached to approved vehicles by licensing authorities yet he has misreabley failed to do so.
We have seen local authorities such as Edinburgh and Leicester spend thousands of pounds on reports just so his vehicle and others like it can be licensed. I think its about time Mr Facena and those other vehicle manufacturers who want licensing conditions relaxed should put their hand in their pocket and do something about it.
We recently had a failed application in Peterborough but its not surprising when the applicant told me that he got no backing from Mr Facena.
I'll give Mr Facena some free advice and that is, "the competition commission won't help him in any way shape or form". All he is doing is throwing good money after bad and prevaricating over a situation that should have been sorted out years ago. It is crystal clear to every subscriber to TDO that the only way he is going to get a result on this matter is by challenging the licensing conditions laid down by local authorities that prohibit his type of vehicle from being licensed.
Get wise Mr Facena and get organised and the next time a cabbie puts in an application to license one of your vehicles give him some support both financially and legally.
