Scarborough Evening News November 30, 2006 HEADLINE: Stranded motorist 'saved' by taxi driver A TAXI-driver has been hailed a good Samaritan after going to the rescue of a visitor whose car was attacked by vandals. Ian Curtis, of Ace Cars, in Durham Place, Scarborough, offered to help when John Edmundson found all four car tyres had been slashed with a knife. Mr Edmundson had been with Scarborough friends celebrating the birth of their baby and had intended to return to his home town in the Midlands the same day but was persuaded to stay. He said: "I booked into a guest-house in Queen's Parade and parked my car outside. "When I returned the following morning I found all four tyres had been slashed by some brave warrior." Mr Curtis, who was parked nearby, saw Mr Edmundson in trouble and offered assistance. "He took the time to drive around Scarborough to find a tyre depot. He flagged down an AA van and took him to the depot to change my tyres. He didn't even charge me," said Mr Edmundson. Mr Curtis said: "The poor bloke only came up to see his friends for a couple of days and it's ended up costing him a fortune. "I'm a great believer in one good turn deserves another and you never know someone might help me out one day. "I was more than happy to give a helping hand I'd do the same for anyone." Mr Edmundson, who lives in Stafford, said: "He really saved the day and restored my faith in humanity. What a star." Mr Edmundson was so impressed with Mr Curtis that he wrote a letter of thanks to the Evening News which managed to track Mr Curtis down. ...................................... |
