Jail threat if you talk and drive
Wednesday, December 13, 2006
Tuning a radio, lighting a cigarette or looking at a passenger while talking to them could soon land drivers in jail.

They are among the 'bad habits' which are now classed as careless driving but could be upgraded to dangerous driving, the Crown Prosecution Service has said.

Other offences which might be upgraded include tailgating, undertaking and running a red light, as well as reading a map, applying make-up and using a mobile phone while driving.

Dangerous driving has a maximum sentence of two years and causing death by dangerous driving carries a maximum 14-year jail term.

In contrast, careless drivers face a maximum £2,500 fine and a driving ban. The plan is a response to anger over 'light sentences' for killer drivers. The RAC said: 'The punishment needs to fit the crime.'

I think the biggest danger of talking to customers is;

That some will talk back. :D

I am annoyed when the apparent offence of 'undertaking' is mentioned, surely if people's lane discipline was better & everyone kept to the inside lane as they should, there would be for people to try & pass lane 2 hoggers ?

On a more serious note, I get a bit warey when folks don't say a thing.

It makes me think they are either up for a runner, or up for a chuck up. :sad:

I personally dont see how a union that represents both the employers (Taxi Operators) & employees (Taxi Drivers) can represent the interests of both fairly
