Mini cab driver fined for touting for custom at Gatwick Airport

A CAB driver has appeared before magistrates following a joint operation by police and airport authorities to clamp down on illegal taxi touting at Gatwick Airport.

Mohammed Aziz, 30, of Mitcham, Surrey, was fined £50 with £60 costs at Crawley Magistrates' Court on Thursday after admitting illegally touting at Gatwick on December 14.

Prosecutor Richard Lynn said Aziz, a mini cab driver, brought a passenger to the airport and then was seen by police illegally approaching arriving passengers in the North Terminal and handing them details of his firm.

He told the court: "I am sorry,I did not know I was breaking the law. I was told to hand out the leaflets while waiting to be contacted for my next job."

As you do at Gatwick Airport.

This is a typical scenario that is repeated thousands of times a week by the underclass of the London trade.
Perhaps he's part of the Door to Door campaign?

And there was me thinking minicab were no-more. ](*,)

As for the touting, TBH I haven't got a problem with people giving out cards, but I doubt that's what he was doing.

£50 fine isn't going to send a message.

There's probably a bye-law against 'leafleting' on airport property.
