Man can run taxi

A man who was jailed for assault and accused of threatening a council officer has been granted a license to run taxis in the area.

Michael Fisher, of High Green Croft, Carlisle, also had six penalty points put on his driving license.

However, after hearing from mr Fisher, who said he had psychiatric help and now wants to start again, Eden Councils licensing committee decided to grant him a private hire driving license.

Sounds fair enough.

In East Lothian, we have a cooncillor convicted of a 'breach of the peace' after challenging the head of corporate services to a dust-up round the back of Council HQ.

May I remind you that Deputy Prime Minister John 'two jags' Prescott assaulted a member of the public after being hit by an egg. A few months later Prescott had his finger on the nuclear trigger while big Tony was off on holiday.

Reformed characters all of them, but "not a fit and proper person" reserved only for taxi driver's not prepared to tug forelock.

I kind of guessed your response JD, and given the report I cannot understand how this decision was achieved.

How many times do you want this guy to pay, and for how long?

Do you really think councillors or MP's are any better than you?

Do you think they are fit enough to decide the fitness of an individual, and what's more who are you to judge?

And as for my comment, if you need a victim to make you feel good it's usually because you are one, you just don't know it.

Stop looking for the moral high ground CC it's pathetic.

I don't think I made a comment either way did I?

I don't think I need told about my morals from the likes of you.

The decisions as to the persons fitness and propriety were not made by me, obviously the LA think he's fit and proper enough to driver a private hire vehicle.

The apparent evidence is that just over two years ago he was jailed for assault in what appears to be a road rage incident, I find this surprising myself, considering he's now going to drive for a living.

Indeed, the allegations of the LO seem quite condemning.

But I didn't decide nor have I really made a view known.

I take it by using the word "achieved" you are not convinced the councils decision was correct? With this in mind some would think you were passing judgment more one-way than the other.

Perhaps the council should have asked you instead?

And your decision is CC?

I think the conviction, which could be considered road rage, in respect of the occupation, would tell you my opinion, however, I would perhaps give him another 12 months and tell him to re-apply.

Hanging? a bit harsh old boy.
