I am a saloon driver in dundee and have been for 4 years and yes i have a hired plate. I genuenly have no ill feeling towards you guys with the wavs but my money is down around £20 - £30 pounds a night added up in the week it's a lot of money and davie young is still to put his cabs on and another 50 to be heard by june so i hear. I am dreading what it is going to be like by the summer especially when we lose the students i don't expect sympathy but can the council not admit they have gone wrong don't know what the future holds now. |

Bill would it not be an idea to ask the council to make the tests to become a driver a bit harder, like the dsa taxi tests? Then it wouldn't matter how many cars there are, because you can only drive one at a time.

I guess so but the council in dundee are not open to any suggestions they have opened a loophole they cannot close now. We will just have to hope that finance companies turn down the new applicants as not everyone can get finance also the high insurance premiems will maybe put some off apart from that who know what kind of state dundee will be in in 6 months time. |

bill dont pay any attention to any figures regarding plates to be handed out, the figures talked about have always been more than double the real figures, the january estimate was just over 100,27 were handed out ,feb it was 88 ,45 were handed out ,march 56, 23handed out ,and finally april 53, 8 got handed out,all the figures are originating from some numpty hack driver (not op) who works the douglas area, this idiot keeps claiming to have insider information which then turns out to be complete rubbish, ive only met this guy twice but ill make sure there isn,t a third time, the man is one of the biggest walter mitty characters ive ever met, the problem is people listen to him then spread the gossip ,his latest is the town is about to be closed , this is giving people a false sense of security and they are putting on expensive vehicles thinking they will be the last ones, as for making tests harder for new drivers this wont work as 203020 give classes learning new drivers the tests in return for six months work, if its limited drivers you want then simply force all drivers to go through the books most would vanish, its going to be a very testing summer for all owners i have,nt had a wheelchair job for 9 days and the six seater market has dropped dramaticly due to over provision of seven seaters, but this is what happens and its just a matter of putting in the hours and taking care of your money..... |

I predicted this a few weeks ago,but usual waffle about i,m still making loads of dosh. Rubbish, you cannot expect the taxi fleet to increase by around 25% and feel no effect. Also as Scot said,it is head down and hope all will be levelled off,but it will take a few months to see who throws in their plates and what company takes over another, etc. As predicted hard times ahead, but seen it,done it,watched the movie. Good luck, Ellgo aswell. |

i phoned council today to ask how many hack saloons were left the reply was it,s difficult to say as plates are handed in daily, the best bet was to phone after 30 /05/04 as renewals will be dealt with, most new cabs i know are just transfers of either private hires or another, i have had a good week but as ive previously posted six seater jobs are declining due to an influx of cabs, if you are thinking of putting on as six seater ask for a loan of one for a week then make a desicion, next month should be interesting with the 203020 court case plus maybe a desicion on the saloons changing to wavs, there is also gossip about no more council meetings untill june, i think someone mentioned the amount of applicants for the june meeting on this site, but there is a meeting on the 6th of may search here http://www.dundeecity.gov.uk/ |

Blimey, I had forgot about that. However I'm not that sure what's at issue. 203020 said they would license WAVs anyway, and the council has now said they will license WAVs carte blanche. Still no doubt the Dundee dino's have come up with something, and boy is it going to cost them.

Loadsa Money in Dundee,If you are a 203020 Driver/Operator. Come on down and enjoy a good staNDARD OF LIVING. lOADSA MONEY. Next month they will have 50 saloon cars, hackney cabs or Tx2,s. Dundee City will be awash with the elite and operators will be clambering to join this company. No need for buyouts in this City,203020,will again fly the flag. All these poor sods that have put on the wavs, will be out of business, unless, they take heed and join up with the elite. Well Warned Chappies, watch this space. True or False the answer please. |

This is the bit that has perplexed old Sussex.
If they can do what they said they wanted to now, why are they going to court? If it's to get saloon plates, then that goes against what they said in court, and to the licensing committee. If it's to get WAV plates, then the judge will not be best pleased that they are wasting his time. If it's to claim their costs against those that tried to stop them, then that's fair enough. But sensible litigants do that before any court action.

It may be a bit hard at the mo, but at least most of the money is now staying in the trade. Not going to the hired plateholders.
