Woman claims bogus taxi driver raped her

A 44-year-old mum was raped by a bogus taxi driver as she tried to get home from a hen party, a jury heard.

When a silver car pulled up, shortly after her partner rang her to say a cab was on its way, the woman - who had been out with female family members and friends - got in.

But instead of being taken home, she was driven to an isolated hillside and attacked by the man behind the wheel - a local kebab shop delivery man - prosecutor Ieuan Morris told Cardiff Crown Court.

Yesterday, the woman shook as she told the jurors: 'I had asked if he was the taxi and he said he was.

'I tried to get into the back but he opened the front passenger door.'


She said within minutes she realised they were going the wrong way from the Caerphilly pub where she had been celebrating.


But the driver - Turkish national Gokhan Bozoglan - said he was from another area so she thought he just wasn't familiar with the route.


Her concerns turned to fear when they turned off a main road and onto a grit track and he stopped and suddenly reclined her seat and moved it back.


She said: 'There were no lights, only the moon. I told him I had cash in my bag but he said he didn't want money - he just wanted to have sex with me.


'I begged him not to touch me. I was petrified.'


When it was over, she tried to get out of the car but he gripped her arm, bruising it, then drove on, dropping her in a dark lane.


She walked until she saw a mini bus and the driver took her to Bargoed police station.


Bozoglan, 29, was arrested nine days later, on August 22, at kebab shop premises in Commercial Street, Nelson, where he worked and stayed.


Mr Morris said the woman's mobile phone was later found in Bozoglan's wife's possession at their home in Hackney, London.


At first he denied being in South Wales on August 13 but later said he had seen the woman and she had consented to sex.


He denies rape.
