Survey given as excuse to increase driver fees. I suppose someone has to pay for the Council's policy of restriction? Why not cabbies? However I don't see why private hire drivers should have to pay for the councils hackney carriage policy. ..................................................... The Northern Echo January 20, 2007 TAXI LICENCE RISE ANGER TAXI drivers have reacted angrily to a council's plans to raise licensing fees by eight per cent. Harrogate Borough Council said if there was no increase in charges, its Hackney Carriage expenditure budget would have a deficit of (GBP) 5,770 by the end of the next financial year. The council has to find (GBP) 12,500 from its budget to pay for an unmet demand survey. Licensing manager Gareth Bentley has recommended an eight per cent rise. The council's licensing committee will discuss the charges on Wednesday. Richard Fieldman, chairman of Ripon City Taxi Proprietors Association, called the proposed rise unreasonable and excessive. _________________________- |
