| Post subject: | Driving licence fraud |
In many licensing areas, an accumulation of penalty points on to a drivers licence for speeding offences, for instance, will lead to an invitation to attend the local licensing committee's next meeting, to explain ones misdemenours, which may result in a requirement to attend a driving course, or a suspension, or even a revocation of licence and livelihood. I now understand that on renewal of badges in my area (annual) drivers are now required to produce their current DVLA license, which the licensing officer then goes off to check by telephone with the local constabulary if the license is current and valid. The reason? Well, it has occured to some of the more vulnerable (to being caught speeding) types, that if they report their licence lost or stolen, a replacement licence is sent out by the DVLA (for eighteen pounds) if they pick up points, they go on the replacement licence, and if required to produce by their LO, they produced their "lost" "clean" licence. So, a phone call from the LO to the Police, and they know if the licence is genuine or not. I applaud my LO for their vigilance, but have one question. If a phone call is all that it takes, why do we need the CRB? And ask your own LO if this is a problem in your area, and what they are doing about it? |

Sure he can ring up? Our Council asks DVLA for a print out of the latest records. |
