Post subject:  Melton driver's settle abuse claim.

Remember this case? It seems these two men are to make an apology to the person they were accused of verbally abusing. Not only that, there seems to be other punishments in the offing, such as a suspension and a training course on Equality? It is understandable why they refuse to comment.

HEADLINE: Drivers' settlement after abuse claim

A settlement has been reached between a council and two taxi drivers after complaints of racial abuse and harassment were made against them.

Melton Borough Council threatened to revoke their licences after it said it had investigated and substantiated the claims against them.

The two drivers, Robert Croft, 45, a father-of-three, of Long Clawson, and 52-year-old father-of-five Lee Franklin, of Melton, had appealed against the decision.

A hearing into the case was scheduled for Melton Magistrates' Court on Wednesday.

Accusations included playing racist music, and racially abusing an Asian man and an Asian woman.

Both men strongly denied the accusations, which were also investigated by the police, although no action was taken.

Council head of regulatory services, Jim Worley, said: "I can confirm the issue of the revocation of the Hackney carriage/private hire drivers' licences has now been resolved.

"The drivers have agreed to withdraw their appeal against the revocation of their licences in return for an alternative penalty that combines suspension, equalities training, a warning as to future conduct and a letter of apology.

"They are, along with all other drivers, expected to conform to a high standard of courtesy and behaviour and have been reminded of this."

Both drivers declined to comment.
