Footballer caught up in taxi fare row

POLICE are investigating claims that former Sky Blues footballer John Hartson failed to pay a taxi fare.

Officers are looking at allegations that the 31-year-old West Bromwich Albion star did not pay a cabbie who picked him up from Ashby-de-la-Zouch, in Leicestershire, and took him to his home in Solihull.

A spokeswoman for Leicestershire Police said they had received a complaint about the behaviour of a man who was alleged to have failed to pay his full taxi fare.

The incident is said to have taken place between midnight and 1.30am on Sunday, she said.

"The matter was reported to police yesterday afternoon and officers are now making further inquiries."
