Today Liverpool black cabs withdraw from the airport. A Mr S a driver of impeccable character, made the mistake of going into the main terminal, without his airport badge on.
One thing led to another and he ended up being suspended for 28 days . The rest of the boys on the Rank moved off to a side road .

The T&G have been called into mediate the outcome of which, perhaps our resident reporter might discover.

Taxis in revolt Mar 24 2007

by Michelle Fiddler, Liverpool Echo

TAXI drivers yesterday staged a wildcat protest over parking charges at Liverpool airport.

Cabbies are also furious at being made to wear security badges while sat in their cabs at the rank outside the terminal.

Up to 50 cab drivers refused to drive through the barrier into the paid car park at John Lennon airport and instead parked on the road outside.

The measure forced many air passengers and visitors to Liverpool to carry their luggage more than 500 yards to get into a taxi.

Teams of airport workers were outside the concourse directing passengers to buses and private hire companies.

Jimmy Jackson, 60, who has been driving cabs for seven years, said: “We are being charged £1 every time we go into the airport and this is being pushed onto the passengers.

“They are getting the rough end of it, which isn’t fair on them.

“We think the airport is just being greedy.”

Last month, Liverpool airport caused fury among passengers by installing turnstiles in the departure lounge and charging £2 for increased security costs.

Mr Jackson also said that drivers objected to being made to wear security badges in their cabs.

“We were told we had to wear them in the airport, which is understandable.

“But then we were told to wear them n our cabs. But in the cold weather we havet coats over the top and are forever being told to show them.”

Matters came to a head yesterday when one driver refused to wear his security id and was told to leave.

Robin Tudor, commercial services manager at the airport, said: “If drivers are not prepared to abide by the code of conduct agreed with them and their union, we don’t want them at the airport.

“The system is the means by which we can maintain security around the site.”

Driver S phoned into the local radio station.
” The Roger Phillips show” funny enough Roger is an x Taxi driver from Manchester. Now you would think he might get a bit of sympathy, not a bit of it. Driver S explained why, he was at the end of his tether.
He explained “
You take your fare to the destination, say it comes to 15 pounds you say that’s 16 pounds please with the 1 for the airport.
The punter looks puzzled and pays, but does not tip.
This barrier system makes the driver pay. Not the punter. He also complained about the local bus company, touting all the passengers before they get to the Rank.   The bus company is running extra buses, making it impossible to make a living. In fact he says he only had 4 trips the day before.
Roger man of the people, showed no sympathy and continued pushing the line, Peel holdings are skint.
Roger Phillips went on to interview.
TM a leading member of the T&G.  He also had no sympathy with driver S. He went on to state that it was just a few rogue drivers at the Airport. More or less saying if they did not like it, find them selves other jobs, he also said “any one who was not in the T& G was a free loader.   What a brave man Driver S, is he has got every one against him . But the sad thing is Driver S IS RIGHT. eusasmiles.zip eusasmiles.zip regards streetcars

Well who knows!.
but after a week, of the Liverpool Echo s, dishonourable, campaign against taxi drivers. I would not belive a word they say .
I know Liverpool taxi drivers, would sooner be seen reading the Sun, than T. D. O. but perhaps Sean ,would come on here and give us his account of what happened. Along with all his other grievances. Streetcars
