dundee city council today issued yet another 3 hackney plates and 5 ph. this brings the totals to 663 hacks and 101 ph's. with a population of 120.000 that is declining monthly and NCR..atm makers closing down, making 650 jobless, not to mention tesco warehouse also closing with 150 more jobs going, the future of the trade is now in serious jeopardy.
the council also when challenged today on not one extra rank space being allocated in 3 years with 180 hacks coming on in this time, were more interested in commenting on the dda, which is not implemented in the trade in dundee...the taxi wars are coming ! the pie is well and truly ate ! and 663 are now fighting for the crumbs !

looks like redundancies in the trade to fall in line with the rest !

You lot wanted de regulation if I remember rightly, it's now coming back to bite you on the backside. Welcome to the real world mate we've been suffering for the last 3 years, other drivers have been suffering longer due to de-regulation, you only want a few factories and like you've mentioned a manufacturing plant to close with a few job losses thrown in and your in trouble.

You can do what most drivers have been doing in England, that's send your cab back, the grass isn't always greener on the other side.

Fancy that lot wanting to choose for themselves.

And remind me how the closing of factories can be blamed on de-limitation.

Is that really the best you can come up with? [-(

you must have been an unwanted child nigel wi a handle ilke that ! but getting back to griping..de-reg was not requested and the waiting list was working ! until a liitle greedy hotelier who's never drove a cab in his puff forgot to renew his plate cos he was on holiday.the plate was re-issued to the next on the waiting list and when the hotelier took a qc wi him to court and won his plate back this in turn burst capped number o 507 !
so my horrible-handled friend, greed indeed forced this upon the trade...and in the mean time chaos.........

Correct me if I'm wrong mate, but I don't think the case you mention made any real difference. Instead wasn't it the 203020 case that burst things wide open because they won 71 plates?

Then there was the hundreds of taxis on plates in the name of people who had nothing to do with the trade and indeed a lot of them were on illegal hired plates?

You say that the waiting list was working well but it was that policy that meant that the likes of the hotelier who you clearly don't like were controlling most of the taxis?

the case i mention was the staging point of 203020's invasion...that one plate cost us dearly as loop-holes and having money to go to the court of session burst the list !
as 4 hired plates..there are still over 150 in dundee cos they are now a more valuable commodity than ever as any new licence granted must be wav..either tx or e7...and all they greedy ol gits hiring them out slowed down the list severely !!!!

So the waiting list wasn't working well then?

And capping numbers again would just benefit the "greedy gits"?

You may be right about the legal cases, but as regards the issues involved I don't think there was any obvious connection.

Perhaps the common theme was deep pockets and therefore an ability to get proper legal advice?

tx op is actually right, although jb,s case was long before the 203020 case the fact he got a brand new license number instead of renewing his old number meant he had jumped the waiting list making it void, 203020 jumped on this and i remember larry duncan pointing it out on the predesessor of this very site, the hired plate problem which 203020 picked up on at an official commitee meeting also added to the pressure, the hired plates are appearing again and i know of one individual who has two plus his own saloon plate,at the last council meeting the commitee warned that when the plate renewal forms are handed in (may)your tax reference number will now be required, notification about the process is due this month ,it will also in the comitees words (cascade to other licenses) i wonder how many of the ops hiring their plates are paying tax?
the badges are due renewal next year maybe the dole dossers and part timers will start paying their tax then

So is this happening a lot in Dundee now?

This has been happening for years in NE Fife, and believe me, once a few start doing it people will just start getting into the nearest car, WAV, saloon or whatever.
