THE JOURNAL (Newcastle, UK) April 4, 2007 Wednesday Keeping drivers up to speed on legal matters A new solicitor's practice has launched a specialist transport law division in the North-East to help keep thousands of the region's commercial drivers and operators on the road. Marshall Glover has moved into The Quadrus Centre, Boldon, where it now keeps hauliers, bus companies and independent commercial operators up to date with changes in transport law. New European legislation comes into force next month on road hours and tachograph operation, which will affect the thousands of commercial drivers across the region. Solicitors Nick Marshall and David Glover have moved from transport law firms based in the North-West to set the new operation up in the region. Both solicitors have extensive transport law experience including 12 years David Glover spent working for the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA) - the body which enforces commercial operators' and drivers' compliance with road transport and health and safety legislation. David Glover said: "Nearly 60,000 people work in logistics across the region some 20,000 are employed as van or heavy goods drivers. That's not including bus and taxi drivers and other people earning a living behind the wheel. "Transport law is changing all the time, especially with new European directives coming into force. Our expertise is now on tap to guide companies and individuals and offer practical legal advice through potentially difficult times." Although set up in the North-East to service the region, Marshall Glover handle cases from across the UK and mainland Europe." Mr Glover added: "2007 is set to see some sweeping changes in road transport law and the way in which it is enforced. "The new European regulations on drivers' hours come into force on April 11 and this is arguably the most significant set of changes to drivers' hours since the introduction of the tachograph. The regulations fundamentally change many of the specific rules on how break and rest must be taken, as well as increasing liability for breaches beyond drivers and operators, so that potentially it could affect tour operators and those involved in scheduling transport operations." _______________________________ |

Maybe that's the firm that pays a certain union to act for them.
