Ali convicted.

TDO highlighted this incident several months ago and it is no surprise this gentleman was found guilty. Liakath Ali refused to pick up a blind woman claiming he was allergic to dog hair but has been convicted under the DDA.

Ali faces losing his licence after turning down Paula Thomas, 32. She said he failed to tell her about his allergy and had no medical note displayed in his taxi.

Ali was found guilty of refusing to carry out a booking at Westminster Magistrates Court. He will be sentenced on June 8.

Royal National Institute for the Blind employee Paula said afterwards: "I was very upset and hurt."

I hate to point this out but how would she know there was no ‘medical note’ in his taxi?

It seems to me her memory is very good when it comes to remembering things she can’t see but explicit when it comes to things she wasn’t told.

BTW, before anybody goes off on one I am just pointing out the obvious flaw in her story. :wink:

hmmmm. there ain't much allergy you get from a dog, cats yes as a dog owner of many years, these animals classed as man's best friend for hundreds of years are not to be sniffed at i would gladly carry all night a dog as a passenger than some humans

Maybe this thread should be renamed 'not so blind justice' or 'partially blind justice' or ' I got my sight back long enough to stick it right up this taxi driver justice' Once again I am just pointing to the flaw in her statment.

Maybe the doctors note would have a braille slip on the bottom to confirm that the piece of paper the driver was displaying was legitimate ......... and if they don't then it maybe advisable to include one ........... I know blind people who READ using braille however I have never seem a doctors note identifying allergies, however the fact that Muslims don't view dogs as their best friends seems to be more worthy of question. Don't take any dogs other than what the law says I should. The dogs are bad enough, but from my experience the owners are the smelliest of the smellys.
