Used to be forensic nurse. Here's a tip to look like you are relaxed and listening and no threat but will protect your face and chest. also strangleholds from the back.

Attacks usually happen when you ahev parked. When dealing with a customer you feel may have a go or is agitated put your hand up near your face. the oen closest to him. You could be stroking your chin or fiddling with your collar or scratching your nose. You look as if you are listening but you ahev immediatley covere your face and chest area also strangles or wire can not get over your head and round your hand.

You can "block" and stop. and maybe teach you a few simple hand locks or arm locks. hold him till he decides to get out or press the panic button for someone to arrive. Simple but may save your life. Also useful when talking to people in a pub who get agitated.

Take care Be safe

Thanks for that info.

I know all info is good, but the thought of that happening has spoilt my tea.

But better be ready than dead.

I just hope none of our other halves ever read any of this, or they would never let us out to work.

Don't want to spoil your tea. but it is a very simple tip. Even when talking to someone at the window. fellow driver got head butted after guy asked for a light. Its simple and easy. Just put your hand somewhere near your chin and you are covered.

I can remember picking 4 Welsh rugby players up some time ago ......................... they were saying right from the off that they were only paying a fiver (for a £15 fare) ............ I didn't rise to the bait and kept driving ................. the smallest one said "are you not bothered mate", "we might as well just pay you nothing then" ...................... I turned to him calmly and said "listen boyo I have six bullets in my gun, there is only 4 of you so I can afford to miss twice" ...................... roars of laughter followed and at the end of the journey I got £20.

Know we all deal with it diffrently and wits and brain and deescalating with a sense of humor is our best way. Know many carry things which we shouldn't and would be for the high jump if police took an interest. Don't want to raise that one incase of big crackdown on what a cabbie carries in his cab and nice big fine for every eager snooker player.

Left hand/Right hand. Its the hand closest to his side. So to a passenger it would be your left if person talking to you through window. but then I wouldn't encourage them to lean in. It would be your right. If an assailant can't see the target - face, neck, chest clearly he is less likewly to go for it as he is not guaranteed success. Also the time a person will take advantage is when you look away. Know that staring can be provocative but a person is less likely to attack when you are looking at him. its that split second when you turn or look over his shoulder or down to the dashboard he will take his chance. Always encourage the person to stand away from the cab and not lean in and take your eye off when he has moved away.

If you doubt what I say I ran a secure forensic unit and no incidents happened on my shift and I taught staff what to look out for but still look relaxed and easy. Be aware. may have a mate. One trick was to get the driver talking at the window, mate goes round and gets in passenger side quickly, snips intercom and driver then was sandwiched between two fellas with knives.

Of course probablity of incidents will go up and down according to where you work. hastings although a small traditional seaside town has the highest rate of GBH and knife attacks and violent assault. Higher rate per qouta than the roughest areas of London. "Oh I Do Like To Be Beside The Seaside. i Do Like To be Beside the Sea TiddlyUm Pum Pum"

Are you sure you ran the secure forensic unit?

Yep.

Wanna discuss NHS politics? 80% staff turn over in most hospitals? Staff only hired on short-term contracts. Overseas staff hired because they have less job security. Or raise health and safety issues and it is a one way ticket back to poverty. 30=40% nurses drop out of nursing. 13,000 nurses permanently droppd out of nursing in 2004 there are only 3000 student nurses being trained at any one time. The first lecture as a student nurse is about Liability and nurses and medical professionals are advised to avoid liability by avoiding taking action in the first place. It does not matter if a patient dies or deteriorates as long as the intervention has not got your name on it. MRSA is air born so all teh adcvie of hand washing is null and void. The dead are put down on the statistics as a successful discharge.

Most nursing knowledge and input and practice is out of date and illegal.
But as each nurse and doctor is responsible for their own knowledge and practice-not the hospital or govt - and have to pay out 100s and thousands to keep upto date the chances of having a consistent up-to-date and effective nursing input is zit zero zilch.

Represented England in a International Eurpean Delegation of Nurses to Holland in 1995. But the politics is mad. I cannot guarantee your wel-being when you come into hospital. In fact most nurses and doctors avoid it and are signd up to Bupa. But that does not make a difference as it is the same practitioners. Just nicer curtains.

Bet you feel better already

Simular thing happened to me with four welsh rugby players who were looking for a club where they could score easy. I got the fare ok but they were being very abusive about the geordies so i dropped them at the local gay club and said they would find it no problem in there.Mind you when they phoned the office up later on and asked where i was i went into hiding

I hate that. they may be joking. But setting off with them saying that and offers of worse don't help. World Cup. 6 lads flagged me down and wanted to go all the way to Tunbridge Wells. Fare Enough. Nice ride £60 money up front. As we go along they get pretty lariy and start getting intimidating. Especially one idiot. nasty piece of work. Luckily they had all had few and wanted letting out to relieve themselves in the middle of nowhere in Sussex/kent. So I let them. Then locked the door and drove off. I went up the road waited a enough minutes to worry them then went to offer to pick them up onyl if they behaved and made Mighty Mouth shut his gob or he would be left to walk on his own. They all agreed. got int he cab and agreed the punsihment would be for three of them to sit on mighty mouth and jump up and down on him for the rest fo the journey. I also got an extra tip at the end for being soo nice and going back for them.

I do hate it. Drove another 6 right back to rank and Police Control Van. Said they would drag me out the cab and beat me up if i chucked them out. So doors locked and back to the rank. Another kept grabbing me through the opening. Wouldn't get out. So i became James Bond stunt driver. A few emergency stops and sharp corners and he was on the floor and dazed enough for me to grab his legs yank him out and drive off.

Other thing is when it is £15 on the meter and they offer you £10 for cash. It is CASH!! What do you think I deal in American Express?

I told this story on here before, but it's worth another mention on this thread.

Picked up three Sunderland fans many years ago and their team had the bloody cheek to beat my team.

Not only that they were taking the pee out of them for being so bad.

So when they asked to be taken to a club for the night, did I take them to a club which had loads of girls wearing next to nothing, or to a club chock-a-block full of some very nice boys? Image

You decide?

How did Sunderland beat your team? Didn't say which crap team you support. Ah well. Silence is Golden and a lot safer. Have a West ham supporter I always enjoy taking the rip out? Sent me all theway to his house once to fetch him a replacement shirt. Took it to him in the pub. he took his West ham shirt off and ceremoniously set light to it in the waste bin outside. Ah well. Relegation again. Outside the the serious stuff you do have good realtions with reguilars and funny stories and happenings. Me and another driver offered to do a regular column for the local paper about observations of teh town, people and stories (confidentiality of course) But paper didn't want to know. Still want to have the pose of a nice little boring seaside town. Shame!! Much more interesting than the boring column written by some middle England twit about Beach combing. and observations written from a desk. The five mile high club have nothning on the 60miles an hour through the Sussex countryside in the back of a taxi club. Just when I thought it was ever so romantic I found they were married - to other people.
