A TAXI driver has failed in an appeal to get his licence back after he was suspended for “cherry picking” fares.
Mr Jones, appealed against a decision by magistrates to uphold the Licensing Panel’s suspension for two weeks.
His case was dismissed at Liverpool Crown Court yesterday.

Jones’s licence was suspended after he was found to have cherry-picked passengers in Hanover Street in the early hours of Sunday, June 18, 2006. He claimed he turned down fares because he was waiting for his daughter.

He has to pay costs of £1,249.50.

They would have half of Cardiff off of the road. I was thinking about it the other day - when you are abroad the natives so to speak chuck you a price on a given product, because they like to barter and it is then up to you to knock them down.

I am just wondering with the influx of other countries how much of that practice will sneak in. Unfortunately our people are not used to that, and tend to by and large accept the high prices asked.

Hence the problems!

I hope they always accept our prices, the last thing we need is to have to barter! We have a living to make!!
