50-60 saloons never renewed their plates this year, most common reason was ( im just fed up)? a couple were genuine forgetfull owners who are now paying the price of a suspension of license, last year the dta asked the saloon owners if the council agreed to close the town if all saloon owners went wheelchair would they do it, the answer was no, many saloon plates were hired out which made the wheelchair option negetable, now the hired plates are handed back(fed up) maybe the dta could ask the remaining saloon plates again?, if im not wrong the saloon plates are now the minority, but they still have the advantage of putting on £200 cabs, the taxman used to be every cabbies enemy but in dundee at least he is wellcomed with opened arms, i would buy him a pint as long as it was tax decuctable ,next year a lot of badge holders will be (fed up) and not renew their badges ,i cant wait, there is no report of any wav ops not renewing plates, maybe wav stands for(we are verified )

Maybe they were some of the illegal hire plates.

In the past drivers had to beg for a shift, now the power is with the driver.

Did you get that Flanagan? 'Power with the driver', and you you dumb arse what it the other way around. [-(

And to think someone was saying he never changes tack. Image

it was the new forms that caused this, saloon plates were like gold in dundee, you can put any car on as a taxi plus as a bonus you were able to hire the plate out for £50.00 min, prior to the new forms plates only got returned when the owner died, it wasn,t just hired plates that were returned,a few ops with drivers also handed their plates back and then went on to driving for other cabbies, some drivers have also bailled as they didn,t want their names on the new forms, there is talk of a two month blitz by the enforcement officers just round the corner, this is to check that ops have declared their drivers plus check the condition of cabs
