Post subject:  Hastings Taxi Driver Stabbed in Neck from Behind

I have hads an up-hill battle trying to get safety in taxis fro drivers and passengers taken seriously for over 18 months. The problem has been denied and all the usual prejudices surface. Plus taxi drivers themselves being the last to take their safety seriously.

Last night I spent time on the rank and station raising awareness and promoting website and interest. Typical response of "I'm All Right Jack" "Drivers bring it on themselves" Doesn't happen in Hastings and Comes with the job, can't stand the heat get out of the kitchen. etc etc.

Today the front page news in the Hastings Observer is that taxi driver was stabbed in the neck by a passenger in the back seat. This happened "while he was driving" He stopped and defended himself. Got out the car and the man still chased around the car and jumped over the bonnet trying to get him. Before running off. No reason for the sudden behaviour and taxi driver a known really nice young man. And your arguement against my raising safety in taxis is??????

Licensing office have argued over a year despite me giving them a list of assaults and abuses that it is only me raising the point and they were not aware of any problem.

Space Shuttle to Huston. Hello Huston? Can you hear us now Huston?

Website had problems. Virus got into computer (you would really like me if you got that) Everything cleaned. Website going up and being tested. Will let you know. I think i will definitely use the recent local news to push the point and promote the website again. Thinking of having an official Start Date - Probably July 1st. Make sure everything is OK and send out promotion material advertising as such.

Good news though. After kicking brown stuff for over a 18 months re safety in taxis and arguing for collective approach and trying to get grants to give every driver cctv and writing to MPs and councillors I found out Hastings Council have arranged for every car to have free cctv if wanted. They never told me. Baskets!!! I was still being told two weeks ago that Hastings doesn't have a problem. Of course I am pleased I just feel a little short changed as I have been treated quite shabbily then find I got what I fought for but not told.

Ah well. Onward and Upward.

Driver Safe and Have a Good Weekend.

Hastings has a history of going its own way and being quite un-law abiding with smuggling, pirating and wrecking and murder. But the King was dependent on Hastings and its men and fleet to defend England. So the King allowed hastings to do what it wanted and turned a blind eye. So Hastings has always had an arrogance and contempt for the law. There certainlu is no common empathy.

Charles and John Wesley gave up on the town. Said it was one of the most Godless places they had known. Nothing changes.

Why doesn't it surprise me that the replies to this post about yet another attack on a cabbie has been lost in the "it's been posted by a woman so lets take the pi$$" mentality.

Junie is there any more news on how the driver is? And has the person responsible been caught yet?

Cabbie reported to be Ok but suffering mentally as well as physically and as we know no bloody income and no benefits for weeks as they sort them out and check his contributions.

Guy not caught. But again in a smallish town where everyone picks up everyone after a while it surprises me that they don't collect and distribute the infoemation and have clear discription and actively "hunt" the bstd. If you picked him up in a certain spot and dropped him off or were going somewhere they must be places he regularly haunts. So pubs and shops etc must know him. When a few guys got hightjacked and one stabbed I actively asked my customers for any information who lived in that area and the pubs. I actually got a few names of likely culprits. Could giove the names and bringt hem in and have an ID parade by the cabbies.

Of course I past on the information but nothing further. Got lost in filing. Driver said this nutter smelled of drink. So that means he was maybe drinking in pubs before getting. OK check the pubs round where he was picked up. What gets me is even after these events there in no discription or anything of height or face or clothing so people could maybe remember or be warned.

I just feel it gets filed away and not much intelligence done because he's a "cabbie

One of the things of Safety In Taxis after doing an intiial nation wide survey is to have regular feedback and "Alerts" and collect information and send it back out to the cabbies in that area and maybe better identify the cuplrits. and places they were picked up. and dropped. Be more active.

Not noticed if pss being taken. But I have the intelligence to ignore you and treat you with the disdain and contempt which you deserve if you do.

If you are serious and concerned about safety in taxis for both driver and passenger I will take you on if you are not I will just ignore you and concentrate on those who do.

Don't have to respond and fight every idiot who stands and flails his arms in the street. You can walk round them and ignore them.
