Police crack down on unsafe limos

A limousine has been seized and five others issued with prohibition notices after Sussex Police carried out safety checks in Brighton and Hove.

On Friday evening numerous vehicles, including nine limousines, were stopped in Marine Parade.

Officers said the vehicle seized had no insurance. Six other limousines were found to have traces of Class A drugs.

All of those stopped were found to have defects, ranging from poorly maintained tyres to carrying too many passengers.

As a result of the checks there were also two street cautions for possession of controlled substances, and 19 other vehicles were served with prohibition notices for a variety of offences.

Pc Gary Relf said the operation had been carried out to promote road safety and specifically to protect passengers who had paid for a vehicle which may not be in a roadworthy condition.

A very good source ( ) has told me that one of the Limos was done for being overweight.

Shock horror we all shout.

But the shock horror shouts should be saved for the fact that it was overweight without having any punters in.

All the occupants of any car would probably be dead or seriously injured if they weren't wearing seatbelts. As per usual the "crash" was designed to suit the purpose of the programme. They even made sure that one of the rear seats was loosened. Have any of you actually seen a limousine after a crash? I have and the passenger compartment has always been in tact and if passengers wear their seatbelts correctly they would not get seriously injured or die.
From what I heard, the programme makers were dissapointed with the damage to the passenger compartment they wanted it to break apart but the stretched part was so well made that this didn't happen.

There is no operator when you hire a vehicle for self drive. There you have an answer now go away.

Limo goes up in flames

A driver had to leap from his stretch limousine after it burst into flames.

Tony Banks, from Shoreham, was trying to jump start the vehicle with the help of a friend when it caught fire in a layby off Shoreham Road in Upper Beeding at about 10pm yesterday. (mon).

The flames quickly spread to the second car. Both vehicles were destroyed but the drivers were not injured.

Other vehicles were unable to pass because of thick black smoke billowing across the road.

The blaze was put out by firefighters from Shoreham and Steyning.
