We banned passengers and drivers from smoking in the vehicle 20 years ago and I am gutted that we can no longer differentiate a no smoking policy from the shed brigade.

I might add that in some areas there will be a drop in trade, but if drivers want the pub work then good luck to them.

In the longer term it will be good, in fact very good, because there will be an extra 100,000+ punters each year who haven't died. :D

I think a lot of people will blame the smoking ban if there is a loss of trade, but I honestly do not believe any effect of it will be seen until Oct/Nov when the colder weather sets in.

From what I can see at the moment is that most pub and club users are content to stand outside almost like some exclusive members club, but all that will change later in the year.

At the moment "Cardiff" has gone a lot quieter, but I believe that it is down to a number of 1/4% x 4 interest increases in the last 12 months that is causing the downturn.

Another problem that I see arising will be violence, yes more of it! How many times have we heard someone who was having a drink say, I was alright until I went out into the cold night air and then it hit me. These guys and girls will be in and out all the time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Who ever let pepole smoke in their cab anyway? I'd only ever have done it if pushed with a £500 cash depsit for the replacement of the seat that they could well burn! Never had anyone take me upon that one. Its never gonna actually affect the Taxi Trade apart from the drivers that smoke and whne / where / if they can!

Is there any truth that a PH driver with out a pax can legally smoke int he car whilst the Hack sittingnext to him can't? This has been based on the same laws that apply to the wearing of seatbelts!

Will the smoking ban in cabs effectively turn the smoking Hacks into PH drivers?

You can't smoke in either a PH or a HC.

Where is the legislatin for the driver of a PH who is abiding by the Law - ie. wearing a seat belt; can't ply for hire... not a public vehicle so must be allowed to smoke whilst not carrying pax?

It is a work vehicle so therefore it comes under the legislation as a work place. The legislation covers all places of work not just public places.
