Taxi fares increase

Taxi fares in Newark are to rise by 50p a mile.

Next month all hackney carriage and private hire fares will go up by 19% following a decision by Newark and Sherwood District Council's general purpose committee.

It followed a review of the added costs for taxi drivers, including rising fuel bills, excise duty, insurance and general running costs.

At the moment passengers travelling one mile are charged £2.80. This would rise to £3.30.

If there are no objections, the new fares will start on July 26.

I was just looking at the latest fare table in PHM, and I wish to nominate the drivers of Hartlepool as being the stupiest drivers in the UK.

After the flag they run at 70p a mile.

The AA running costs for the average diesel 40p a mile, so for those buffoons in Hartlepool to earn just the basic min wage they must do at least 12 jobs an hour.

I suspect the AA costs aren't really representative of real world taxi running costs.

And didn't JD supply figures a couple of years ago which demonstrated that the Hartlepool fare figures were a bit misleading?

TBH in a mandatory area methinks they could be viewed as being an under-estimate.

Well if the car did 40,000 a year @40p a mile that's £16,000 a year - you could run some motor for that

If it's a TX then that £16,000 goes down to £10,000 due to the fuel.

If it's new then that's another £4/5,000 a year off in write downs.

Take tax, insurance, tyres etc off, and the pot ain't that big.

Well that's a worse case scenario, but in Hartlepool I suspect most of the cars will be of the 15p a mile variety.

I hope you are, but it's now hard to tell from the new way PHM do their table.

Now they do it in alphabet order, and I think that's a very good thing. =D>

At last council can't now tell you that you are a greedy bunch of c**** cos you are already in the top 100.
