Decision on taxi fare hike application delayed

AN application to increase taxi fares in Blackpool by more than 11 per cent on average has been put on hold.

The council's public protection sub-committee deferred the item until the next meeting in September.

The application for an average 11.6 per cent increase depending on the tariff and based on average mileage was made by Blackpool Transport and General Workers' Union on behalf of its members.

It would see passengers paying an extra £1 to travel five miles during the day and an extra £1.60 for late-night trips.

Licensing chairman Coun Henry Mitchell said: "We decided to defer the item to allow other taxi proprietors to come in with their views.

"We're not saying they can't have an increase but it has to be sensible."

Objections had been received from Blackpool Licensed Taxi Association, Radio Cabs and Progress Taxis.

Wouldn't it have made a tad of sense for all the unions/associations to agree on a way forward? :?

Or maybe the egos of some of them wont allow the others to take any credit.

Or maybe they think everything is hunky doory in their manor. [-(
