A Leeds cabby sent this via e-mail to me.

Alex

On Wednesday 29 August at leeds Magistrates court a Leeds Private hire driver was found guilty of taking a flag down after being reported by a Leeds Hackney carriage driver. The private hire driver also later lost an appeal against the suspension of his licence by Leeds City Council. It is accepted that around 10000 fares are picked up weekly in Leeds by unlicenced drivers. Maybee this is the way forward for the Hackney trade to lessen the ammount of fares taken illegally from under their noses.

Now thats interesting.

I think we would all like to klnow the circumstances of this one? Convicted on the evidence of a cabby? There must be more to this than meets the eye.

We have amongst many down here doing it, one in particular blatantly.

He has physically threatened other Hackney drivers who have challenged him, and I am also lead to believe he has threatened members of the public.

This has been going on for a long time with numerous complaints, and letters of complaint going in against him. In short the guy is a thug, but the L.O for some reason or another have not caught him or do not want to.

I am wondering if anyone should suffer violence at the hands of this person, would one be able to sue the L.O office considering the number of complaints that have gone in against him.

I have been of the opinion the the council have a duty of care. If they knew that there was a problem and did nothing then maybe there would be a case. However they would probably say that at the time there was insufficient evidence and they were in the process of gathering enough evidence to secure a conviction.
