WEDDING TAXI TEARS FOR AUNT

HEARTBROKEN Helen Tait missed her niece's wedding when the taxi driver dropped her off at the wrong church.

Helen, 66, travelled 200 miles with daughter Nancy and grandson Christopher for the ceremony in St Annes, near Blackpool.

But Helen missed seeing bride Victoria Nimmo, 23, and groom Gary Wilson, 37, exchange vows.

And local firm Whiteside Taxis sent Helen a cheque for just pounds 4 in compensation.

Helen, of Patna, Ayrshire, said yesterday: "The taxi came and picked us up around 12.30pm for the wedding which was at 1pm.

"I'd told the driver the wedding was at the Methodist Church in Church Road, St Annes. I even showed him the invitation.

"When he dropped us off, I gave him a tenner and he moved away.

"We saw a big white building, but there was no one about. I had tears running down my face."

But cab firm owner Daniel Whiteside insisted their driver was not to blame.

He said: "We are not in the business of ruining people's days."

The firm claimed that if Mrs Tait had phoned them back when she realised she was at the wrong church, they could have had a cab back within minutes.

Newlyweds Victoria, of Irvine, Ayrshire, and Gary honeymooned near Loch Lomond.

If the facts are as stated, I'm afraid the driver is to blame and so is Mr Whiteside's company. An error which could cost them dear in court.

I have to wonder why they didn't contact the office concerned immediately, when the mistake was discovered
