COACH GIANT TO RUN LUXURY TAXIS

BY TOM MCGHIE

COACH and rail giant National Express will be going into the luxury taxi business from November.

The company is targeting well-heeled business and leisure passengers with a fleet of new Mercedes people carriers.

In a dramatic departure from its mass market image, travellers from central London to Heathrow and Gatwick airports will be able to ride in a chauffeur-driven vehicle for about £22 each - far less than hiring a traditional taxi.

However, the service, to be called dot2dot, will not be totally exclusive. Passengers might have to share with ten others and put up with several stops before the taxi heads off to the airport.

National Express is in talks with airlines and plans to roll out the service to other London airports later next year.

I'm not sure Polish drivers will want to earn £5.50 an hour when they can earn far more on the building.

In fact, despite what we hear about the mass influx of Eastern Europeans, I actually wonder how many are driving taxi/PH out of the 800,000+ that have arrived.

In my area we have a big fat nil. :D

And of course GNER running taxi buses between spalding and peterborough stations in competition with another rail operator as well as buses and taxis

And since national express are taking over the franchise they are inheriting similar services for commuters

i cant see that working out

Y would they use a people carrrier / mini bus carrying 7-14 people when they can fit more on a single or double decker?

.......If its because they will charge you more for the people carrier / minbus then i dont think nobody will use it.

The type of people that use nat xpress coaches are using it as its cheaper than the train :) They wont pay more to use the nat xpress minbus

4th sept 2007 -Another one of them national xpress double deckers crashed again today!!
