Rapist may work in Maldon
CWN
A MAN who raped a student in Chelmsford is believed to work in Maldon.
Detectives are seeking the help of business managers in Maldon, three weeks after a 25-year-old woman was forced into bushes and raped in central Chelmsford.
The attack happened at about 4am on Tuesday August 14, on Corporation Road.
The student had spent the night out with friends at Chicago Rock Café in the town centre, when everyone parted ways to return home.
She got into a taxi with a man she thought had been in the group, and both got out on Corporation Road, when he forced her into the bushes and raped her, before running away.
Nearby residents hurried to the spot after hearing the woman's screams.
Police officers now believe the man's comments in the taxi have given them a clue to tracking him down.
Investigating officer, DC James Hardingham, said: "During the taxi journey, the man made several amorous advances towards the victim which were swiftly rejected.
"He also mentioned that he worked in Maldon, but didn't say exactly who for, or what he did.
"We would ask managers of businesses in that area to look closely at the man's description. If it matches a staff member or colleague they should contact us immediately."
The suspect is described as black with very dark skin, around 5ft 11ins tall, of medium build, short dark hair, and speaks with an African accent. He also has a diamond earring.
Police are still looking at CCTV footage from the town centre and the nightclub, to see if the attacker was caught on camera.
Anyone with information is urged to contact police at Chelmsford on 01245 491212.
