It is already happening here. There are several schemes running where by you ring up and a guy will turn up on his fold away scooter and drive you home in your own car and then drive himself off again on his scooter.

Ignore the hype that says they have been providing this service for years.

The service started in June 2007.

It is similar to (and may have come from) the s6 system over here.

If you research further you will find that the system is already under investigation at LA airport by the California Regulators.

Limo operators are jumping up and down cos this is bypassing their strict licencing system.

How the [edited by admin] can it have come from S6??????? S6 is to do with the modification of vehicles to comply with the S6 regulations and has nothing to do with driving them.

I suspect they got the idea from the system.

S6 is to get the V5.

Operating without a coif (or whichever words are flavour or the month) is the general idea of the system is it not?

Don't have palputations though, I am not anti the (S6, self drive) system!

If the authorities won't accomodate a reasonable system (for what is a public demand) then business survives cos it adapts (unlike government).

The problem as I see it is, it is already a problem in the US as they have targeted the most lucrative (and competitive) areas and (are) can undercut licenced businesses.

The next step will be for the likes of Avis to roll it out here, at our airports.

Then the eye will be on all of us!

But you "hire the chauffeur to drive your car " it says

This has been happening for donkeys years here. You can hire a chauffeur from most employment agencies to drive your car.

There is nothing in law preventing a private individual from hiring a driver to drive their "own" personal vehicle as long as the vehicle isn't being used for the illegal carriage of passengers for hire or reward. Either long term or short term.

Oh yes, i do sir , but can you honestly say that advising taxi ops to license 200 miles from their base although legal is within "the spirit of the law" ?

Yes, because the law has deemed it lawful, which is more that can be said for limo operators offering unlicensed self drive vehicles for hire or reward and bogus Wedding contracts substituting for a specified contract of hire or indeed a bogus 7 day contract of hire.

I'm afraid we don't advocate unlawful hire or reward but it is obvious that some in the limo industry make a career out of it.

Well I've certainly never advised this, and indeed I've favoured root and branch reform of the governing legislation for just about as long as I've been in the trade.
