Behind wheel of new cab

South Wales Argus

ROGER Nolan can boast about being the first taxi driver in Wales to get his hands on a new model of cab.

The Peugeot E7 is a combination of diesel and bio-fuel and allows disabled passengers to face forwards when riding in the back. Mr Nolan, of Avon Place, Cwmbran, has been driving taxis for 32 years and is the longest serving Hackney carriage driver in Newport. He picked up the new taxi at a roadshow held at Ninian Park in Cardiff last month.

He said: "I'm quite proud of it, every customer has commented on its comfort. The advantage is most vehicles are rear seating for disabled people, this has front facing."

Mr Nolan is also pleased that his new taxi has an ecofriendly fuel option.

"I think anything that helps the environment is a good thing," he said. Having passed his mandatory medical this year, the 60 year-old hopes to keep driving right until the maximum age of 75.

"I've had a full MOT. I intend to live until I'm100, but not driving a taxi until then. This car might last me until I retire," he said.

Is this another case of councils making up laws as they go along? [-(

Maximum age.

Someone tell me where in the 1847 act, the 1976 act, the 1982 Scots act it says anything about folks not being 'fit and proper' just because they have the f***ing nerve to make it to 75?

You have really got to know Newport Council, they are a law unto themselves.

They will make it up as they go along, the article re Milton Keynes (wav's) is a classic.

Newport for the last two years have been insisting that every hackney (yes every) as they fall out of plating, is renewed as a Wav!
