Students invited to see police video
STUDENTS are the focus of a crime safety video being launched to coincide with the start of the new university term.
West Midlands Police hope the video will help cut student crime as thousands of freshers start life at Coventry University and Warwick University.
Entitled Bestmates - night out, the video tells the story of six friends on a night out drinking.
The video presents two scenarios.
In one, the students spike a friend's drink, which leads to a downward spiral of events in which they are run over, robbed, pass out and get attacked in an unlicensed taxi.
In the other scenario, they all look after each other and get home safely.
Student welfare officers say most attacks on students occur when they go home alone or get split up from friends.
The key message behind the campaign urges students to "play together and stay together".
