| Post subject: | SNP cabbie at odds with taxi adds |
Evening News Edinburgh September 12, 2007, Wednesday SNP cabbie's taxi advert just isn't fare NORMAN WORK didn't think his job as a part-time taxi driver would get in the way of being an SNP councillor. But when advertisers emblazoned his cab with the Union flag, he found his nationalist credentials called into question. Councillor Work says he now wants to duck every time he sees someone he recognises. He's seen the funny side, but says his taxi has shocked some of his SNP colleagues and that Tory councillors have offered him application forms to join their party. Cllr Work, who represents Almond ward, carried on driving his taxi at weekends after winning his seat in May. He is paid GBP 75 a month by Taxi Media to carry the ad. He said: "When I saw the Union flag design, I just thought, 'Oh no - you're joking'. I've nothing against the crisp firm, but this was a bit too much." Cllr Work's colleague, Nick Elliot-Smith, said: "I just wish he'd got the Irn-Bru adverts." _________________________ |
