Robbers target taxi driver

A GANG of robbers - posing as late-night customers - pounced upon an unsuspecting taxi driver and stole his wallet and phone.

The attack took place late on Monday night, when the 29-year-old taxi driver was called to pick up a customer from Delamere Close, Aylesbury.

Two men approached the taxi and distracted the taxi driver by pretending to be customers. Meanwhile, a third man opened the driver's door and pulled him out.

The gang subsequently stole a brown leather wallet containing credit and debit cards, a quantity of cash and a silver Nokia 6230 mobile phone. The robbers then stole the keys to the ignition and ran off; now, the police are appealing for witnesses.

PC Sophie Clegg, the officer investigating the robbery, said: "The driver was very shaken but luckily uninjured. I would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the robbery or who has information that can help the investigation."

The robbers are all approximately 18-years-old. The first is male, Asian, 5ft 6ins tall, slim and clean shaven with short black hair. The second is reportedly black or Asian, 5ft 5ins tall, of slim to medium build and was wearing a black hooded top and gloves.

The third suspect is male, white, with short brown hair. He was wearing a cream coloured tracksuit.

Anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the area at the time, or who knows anyone with information, is asked to contact PC Sophie Clegg at Aylesbury Police Station on 0845 8 505 505. If you don't want to talk to police or give your name, call the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.

You can also give information to the police in person by visiting any police station. To find out the opening times and location of your local station please call 0845 8 505 505 or visit:
